In a day when the defense played like a dream, especially two mistakes of Hugo Lloris, Tottenham gave Newcastle three points at home.
Tottenham entered the game energetically after the opening whistle. Harry Kane and Son Heung-min constantly had chances in front of goal but Nick Pope was excellent enough to deny the goal for the hosts.
Newcastle with the overwhelming number of troops in the midfield continuously won the second ball and forced Tottenham to retreat to the home field with quick, low-touch ball deployment situations. Long balls also bring great damage to Hugo Lloris's goal.
The host, after a series of bad situations, had to concede a goal from a mistake by Hugo Lloris. Starting from Fabian Schär's long pass, Tottenham's defense was a bit confused before Hugo Lloris' mistake created an opportunity for Callum Wilson to shoot into the empty goal.
Not stopping there, Lloris continued to have a bad long pass that put Ryan Sessegnon in a one-on-two situation. Miguel Almirón with his pace easily eliminated a Clément Lenglet who wasn't really ready to defend before shooting into the home net.
Not much changed after the break as Newcastle continued to show their advantage in the midfield to force Tottenham to play longer balls. The visitors are always the ones who get the second ball before counter-attacking and making Tottenham constantly foul.
In a very difficult time, Tottenham suddenly found a goal thanks to a deliberate ball. Harry Kane got his 10th goal after a clever penetration of the far post to put the ball into an almost empty goal.
It seemed that the equalizer would help Tottenham improve the situation, but the certainty in the middle of Newcastle made the host completely helpless in finding opportunities. No more goals, meaning that 3 points will belong to Eddie Howe's army. This victory helped Newcastle squeeze into the top 4 with 21 points after 12 matches. They also closed the gap with Tottenham itself to 2 points.
