Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo first shared his feelings after Portugal stopped in the quarter-finals of the World Cup 2022.
Portugal's journey at the 2022 World Cup was soon stopped after a humiliating 0-1 defeat to Morocco in the quarterfinals on the evening of December 10. Fans will no longer be able to see Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates compete at the biggest football festival on the planet.
In the loss to Morocco, Ronaldo continued to sit on the bench before being sent to the field in the second half. Despite his best efforts, the 37-year-old superstar could not help Portugal avoid a bad outcome.
The image of Ronaldo bursting into tears after the final whistle touched fans around the world. At 37 years old, the tournament in Qatar is almost certainly CR7's last World Cup.
One day after Portugal was eliminated, Ronaldo spoke for the first time. On his personal social network, the former MU star sent a letter to his fans and responded to criticism directed at him.
Ronaldo wrote: "Winning the World Cup with Portugal is the biggest dream of my career. Fortunately, I have won many international titles, including the national team level. But put Portugal to the world's highest throne is the greatest desire.
I fought for that. I fought hard for this dream. In the 5 World Cups I've attended, I've scored goals, consistently for over 16 years. I got to play with great teammates and was supported by millions of Portuguese.
I gave my all. Show it all on the field. I never turned my back on the fight and I never gave up on that dream.
Sadly yesterday the dream ended. It's not worth this enthusiasm. I just want you all to know that much has been said, much has been written, much has been speculated, but my dedication to Portugal has not changed, for a moment.
I have always been a fighter for the team's goals and I will never turn my back on my teammates and my country.
There's not much left to say at the moment. Thank you Portugal. Thank you Qatar. Dreams are great even though they don't last... Now time will heal, and allow each person to draw their own conclusions."
